IED and SIMITECNO BRING THE 3D TECHNOLOGY INTO THE CLASSROOMS,
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN EUROPE
IED – Istituto Europeo di Design is happy to welcome the latest technology that has arrived in its laboratories.
IED constantly invests in cutting-edge design and prototyping tools and, thanks to the collaboration with Simitecno, has equipped the laboratories of its buildings in Milan, Rome, Turin, Florence in Italy and Madrid and Barcelona in Spain with Laser Scanner 3D ZG Technology.
The 3D Laser Scanner is a highly innovative scanning equipment with vast applications in the professional field. For the first time in Europe, this technology is being used in a school and will be available to IED students. Thanks to its transversality it will be useful and used in many courses such as Product or Transportation Design, but also in Fashion courses or for scanning objects / people for 3D animation, up to the Restoration course.
Below you will find some videos on its many applications and when you will be an IED student you will use it to shape to your ideas!
A FOCUS ON THE TOOL
G-Scan is a three-dimensional structured light scanner, a precision instrument that allows you to create three-dimensional models of a physical object. Thanks to the opto-electronic design of high quality workmanship and the presence of sensors that capture up to 5 million pixels, the scanner can acquire particularly large areas – even if formed by components and materials with different reflectivity index, returning high quality scans even in difficult conditions.
The scanner is coupled with a custom-made software, capable of processing the captured images in real time and creating a ready-to-use 3D model.
For the first time in Europe, a high-precision scanning tool is available for educational purposes. G-Scan is used at the IED offices of:
