"An Act of Imagination - Doubts, Questions and Answers on AI and Creativity" - launched on November 4th at Lucca Comics & Games 2023

Our partnership with Lucca Comics & Games consists in a research project dedicated to reflecting on the ethics and practice of using generative models in the creative field.

The aim of the cooperation project is to create a platform for dialogue and reflection on the ethics and practice of using generative models in the creative field. We are talking about technologies such as ChatGpt, Midjourney or DallE, capable of creating text or images following a textual input (or 'prompt') from the user.

Amidst the ongoing cultural revolution, we want to address those who are able to imagine the future, proposing a conversation between designers, artists and thinkers. A way of offering the most informed cross-section possible on the subject, eschewing the immediacy of opinion and the excessive polarisation of simplistic answers.

The year-long project will also include stops in Milan, Rome and Florence, where meetings and open research workshops are planned, giving participants the opportunity to experience generative AI directly. The aim is to involve other experts on the topic, explore other territories and involve different stakeholders who are interested in the subject in various ways, to conclude the journey with a final meeting at Lucca Comics & Games 2024.

The image to narrate the project is by Elif Cigirgil - a student of the Undergraduate course in Graphic Design, IED Milano: The Art Pixel Gallery, Digital processing of a photograph by Xavier von Erlach, 2023 that is part of the research project Fragile Surface, carried out in collaboration with Artribune.

In fact, in the spaces of Villa Bottini, in Lucca, it has been set up an exhibition of the works realised by our students of the Undergraduate and Master courses in Visual Arts area - IED Milano - within the Fragile Surface project.
