A book where visual art and design play a central role that can generate a positive impact on people's lives

On Wednesday, November 29th, Stefan Sagmeister presented at IED Firenze his latest book "Now Is Better".

With this new work, released in 2023 by Phaidon, the Austrian graphic designer continues his exploration of how design can touch people's hearts and improve their lives.

"Now Is Better" initially conceived in 2020 as the world was entering a global pandemic, and it delves into the quality of life, using statistics and information to argue how one can envision a future with greater hope and positivity. It's an exploration of human progress throughout the centuries, urging the audience to choose gratitude and positivity over pessimism and despair.

By combining art, design, history, and quantitative analysis, Sagmeister skillfully engages the reader, transforming data sets into stunning works of art. Through the use of primary colors, dazzling geometric overlays, and optical illusions, he contributes to bringing encouraging statistics to life.

Sagmeister, based in New York where he teaches at the School of Visual Arts, is one of the most renowned contemporary graphic designers. He has collaborated with institutions such as the Guggenheim Museum, the Rolling Stones, and HBO. His works have been exhibited in some of the world's most prestigious museums, including the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the Museum of Art (Philadelphia), the Art Institute (Chicago), the Museum of Modern Art (San Francisco), and the Museum of Applied Arts (MAK, Vienna).
