Stay ahead of the curve in a constantly evolving sector and apply the most innovative stylistic solutions from car design to the nautical market on the Master’s in Yacht Design in Turin

Contemporary boating is a constantly evolving sector, marked by a dynamic market that requires a balance between innovation, design identity, and performance. Market research is becoming increasingly central, along with the ability to interpret the demands of a highly exclusive field such as luxury and a solid understanding of the processes that drive yacht design.

The Master’s Program in Yacht Design at IED Torino trains professionals capable of developing complete yacht projects - both motor and sailing - through a combination of theoretical and technical skills related to high-end nautical design. The program integrates design, research, market analysis, and design culture, preparing individuals to operate within the luxury nautical sector.

The Master’s program guides students from foundational knowledge to full design autonomy, providing both theoretical and technical expertise in the creation of motor and sailing yachts, production processes, and the dynamics of the nautical industry. Classes are combined with practical exercises, drawing tools, workshops, and projects that enable students to build a comprehensive skill set and a professional portfolio.

In addition to design, the program teaches how to effectively communicate a project, developing marketing skills specific to the nautical sector and presentation abilities aligned with the luxury market. Students also learn to interact with owners, shipyards, and industry professionals, gaining insight into the dynamics, expectations, and communication approaches typical of the nautical world.

A distinctive element of the program is the intensive workshop dedicated to sailing yacht design, complemented by visits, meetings with professionals, and interactions with companies in the sector. This experience offers direct exposure to the nautical industry, allowing students to observe its processes, expertise, and operational dynamics.

The skills acquired throughout the program culminate in a thesis project based on a real brief provided by a shipyard or design studio. Students work in teams to transform an idea into a complete concept, developing research, interior and exterior design, technical drawings, and professional visual outputs, up to the realization of the best project as a scaled physical model.

The Master’s program prepares graduates to work in yacht design studios and shipyards, shaping professionals capable of navigating creativity, technical expertise, marketing, and client relations, contributing to the design of yachts that represent excellence in luxury nautical design.

Career support runs through the entire program, and the numbers speak for themselves: more than 90% of graduates find employment, with roles spread across the whole country, from the leading nautical hubs to design-related opportunities in every region. The Career Service works closely with each student through one-to-one sessions on building a CV and portfolio and through mock interviews, while career development workshops provide the tools for personal branding, LinkedIn presence, and professional networking, with a specific focus on job search and career orientation within the luxury sector. Rounding out the program, a partnership with Synergie helps students walk into job interviews with greater confidence, and online Career Talks offer a direct line to industry professionals, packed with practical advice and firsthand experience. Company connections are plentiful: at Talent Days, students meet professionals and businesses from the sector and apply for open roles, while Job Future Days offer a deeper look at employment trends and the skills most sought after today. Support continues after graduation too: IED Alumni join a dedicated community with access to a platform offering job opportunities and consulting services to keep building their careers.

Over the years, the Master has developed thesis projects in partnership with major players in the nautical industry, including Azimut Benetti, Sanlorenzo, Cantiere delle Marche, Rossi Navi, and Beneteau, giving students the chance to work on real briefs inside some of the most prestigious shipyards in the world.
