On 20 June, the school celebrated the Graduation of its Class of 2021-22 at Multicines Aribau, the movie theatre with the largest screen in the city, within the framework of its 20th anniversary.

The event saw the participation of Alessandro Manetti, CEO of IED in Spain, and Andrea Marchesi, Director of IED Barcelona, who shared their visions of design and the role of the designer with students, inviting them to: “Dream big, design bigger”.

The event also counted on the presence of Estermaria Laruccia, Private Client Director at Value Retail, as the ceremony’s keynote speaker. In her speech, she dedicated a few words to the graduates, encouraging them not to be afraid to enter a global market and to remain committed to their vision in the exciting world of design.

Claudia Gustems, graduate of the lED Diploma in Creative Advertising and Branding, took on the role of being the voice of the students. During her speech, she talked about the importance of transmitting all the work that goes into creating each garment, model, poster, claim, and strategy, and how her perception of design changed throughout her studies.

As in previous editions, the Best Thesis Awards were presented, with the new addition of the Best Alumni Award for this year. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of IED in Barcelona, it was decided to create a new accolade that celebrates the professional trajectory of the school’s alumni, aiming to serve as an inspiration for all students.

This recognition was presented to Marc de Antonio and Stanislas Chmielewski, alumni from the Transportation Design programme and founding partners of De Antonio Yachts. The two met in IED’s classrooms, and in just 10 years they have become one of the world’s leading nautical design studios. Their yachts are currently present in more than 30 countries around the world.
