Creating stories of style to interpret brand identity and provide a new original perspective: this is exactly what the Fashion Stylist and Communication degree programme at IED Milano is all about

The Fashion Stylist and Communication degree programme at IED Milano will take you along a journey across a wide variety of cultural areas (e.g. visual arts, cinema, photography, sociology). All of these elements, including the social context as a whole, will be used as inspiration source and creative input for your work.
You will study academic and practical subjects that will bring you closer to the professions of the fashion industry. On your second year, you will have the opportunity to choose between two specialization tracks: the one for Fashion Stylist and the other one for Fashion Communication.

The specialization track in Fashion Stylist will introduce you to a type of career reflected in the title itself. Fashion Stylists are experts in visual communication who can interpret the socio-cultural context and translate social aspects and dreamlike imagery into clothing, accessories and other fashion elements.  Stylists develop high levels of understanding and visual sensitivity as they study cultural and artistic reference marks, while also developing an in-depth knowledge of semiotics.
The Fashion Communication specialization track will prepare you to work as a press and communication specialist, either for an agency or in-house. You will learn how to best convey fashion content by structuring a communication strategy to cover different channels: events and press releases, social network coverage and activities, b2b communication and mass media.

After the course, a First Level Academic Diploma is issued. It is recognised by MUR - Italian Ministry of University and Research - and has the same legal value of a Bachelor’s Degree.

Information to decide

Learn how to express fashion with its ideas, and discover how to convey brand identity and product information creating storytelling that is meaningful and entertaining for people.
Explore the most powerful tools to communicate in the fashion industry: study how to prepare and manage photo shoots, videos, fashion films, events, fashion shows, editorial products that tell about fashion and its many different applications.

The Fashion Stylist and Communication degree programme provides cross-curricular training involving a solid and structured cultural base, good knowledge of technical tools used in such areas as photography, video and fashion, combined with strong analytical and process management skills.

Over each semester, you will take a number of courses that will help you build up a broad knowledge base of visual and aesthetic reference marks, such as art history, cinema and music. You will also acquire skills to interpret market trends and develop a deep understanding of fashion publishing and fashion brands. Step by step, you will get an in-depth knowledge of fashion and its different aspects - historical, cultural, sociological and technical - which will be of great help whenever you need to create new aesthetic scenarios. The programme as a whole is designed to ensure that you are in close contact with the job market through a variety of tests and assignments that will encourage you to work in a challenging environment.

The aim of the programme is indeed to prepare fashion professionals who can work with awareness and critical thinking to create, communicate and enhance brands, fashion products and the imaginary behind it all.

In year two, you will spend much time on hands-on projects where you can figure out what your own style is. This is the year when you choose your specialization track: Fashion Stylist if you want to become an expert in fashion changes, analysing and interpreting trends and collections; Fashion Communication if you want to learn how to use impactful multi-channel strategies to communicate effectively about brands and collections.
