For the first time, the Best Thesis Awards 2023 recognised projects in Fashion, Design, Visual Communication and Management by pathways

In an emotional ceremony held on 19 June at Aribau Multicines, IED Barcelona awarded the prizes for the best theses to final year students of the Bachelor’s Degrees, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Degrees, IED Diplomas and the Foundation Course in Global Design.

For the first time, the Best Thesis Awards 2023 recognised projects in Fashion, Design, Visual Communication and Management by pathways.

10 outstanding projects

The final projects addressed issues ranging from the challenge of preserving biodiversity through Interior Design (“Bridging Generations by Hafdís Katrín Hlynsdóttir), Product Design (“Maiko, el robot micorrícico [Maiko: The mycorrhizal robot]” by Gina Bastero) and Transportation Design (“Polestar negative + Elemental” by Youssef Omar), to the influence of inherited family emotional baggage on personal and creative growth, in the case of the Fashion Styling and Communication project (“Esto no es mío [This is not mine]” by Viviana Icaza).

A homage to passions and automatic impulses, appealing to senses such as hearing and touch, was at the conceptual core of “The cross road” by Clàudia Cànovas, winner of Best Thesis in Fashion Design, while in Motion Graphics “Unwoven memories” by Thinh Truong prevailed, a work that created a new audiovisual language to connect the memories of the residents of Colonia Güell.

The Best Thesis Award for Graphic Design went to a proposal for a new graphic identity for the Cercle Artístic Sant Lluc by Varvara Godovikova (“Visual Identity for Cercle Artístic Sant Lluc”).

And last but not least, “Genesis club” by Greta Anna Birgitta Edkvist, “Creative Expression as a Catalyst for forming a collective” by Paula Aragonés, and “Communication Plan for Brava Fabrics” by Marta Marín and Milagros Muñoz, were the works that received awards in the area of Management and Communication Strategies.
