Information to decide

Learning how to create a consistent brand image that reveals a unique perspective on Fashion and contemporary trends

Our English-language Fashion Stylist degree covers a broad knowledge base of technical tools including photography, videos, materials, as well as concepts and key players of the fashion industry. It also helps students develop analytical and advanced process management skills.

The course is designed to train up future fashion stylists who will be responsible for the whole process of brand development, communication and promotion with all the different forms of creativity involved. You will be working on real projects with partner companies of the IED network, where you will have the opportunity to test your skills as a Fashion Stylist.

If you feel passionate about fashion, if you feel that keeping up with the latest trends in magazines, on the street and on social networks is not just a hobby, but rather a skill you would like to develop into a career, and if you dream about creating a brand or joining a fashion company, the Fashion Stylist degree programme at IED Firenze is definitely your best option.

No matter what your background is, we will work to provide you with the methods and skills you need to successfully communicate your own vision as a fashion stylist. We will be with you as you approach a learning process where lessons are not just a mere tool to passively build up your skills. Rather, our teaching methods will encourage you to always be involved in each part of your projects, as you gradually learn how to manage your work processes and schedules independently.

Syllabus

First Year

The first year is devoted to providing students with a basic technical toolkit, a correct basic design methodology and a solid cultural grounding in the fashion sector. The curriculum focuses on the process of realising fashion photoshoots, which begins with observing the real world and decoding the inherent meaning behind its symbols and movements, to then developing an idea and translating it into a style, by way of a

moodboard, which becomes the visual reference from which to create an editorial project. This calls for them to learn the use of certain fundamental technical tools related to photography and managing a photographic set, the methodological tools for creating a moodboard to use as inspiration for doing the photo shoot with a cultural background regarding the history of fashion, of costume and of art. The main aim is to smooth the way for students to learn to interpret styles, analyse and synthesise the real world and their ideas and translate creativity into coherent images with the potential for transmitting the essence of an aesthetic imagery.

Second Year

The second year is devoted to building on the student’s development and experimenting with the skills and demonstrating acquired and creating a tangible outcome. Students tackle the research, development and execution phases of their projects (photo shoots for women’s fashion, men’s fashion and still life), which constitute the main structure of the curriculum.

Each subject is considered as a function of the project: technical and expressive media and cultural codes. Writing, advertising communication and new media are fundamental aspects involved in the development and progress of projects. The basic aim is to achieve a conscious approach to managing creativity, time and the mechanisms of design, so as to highlight the importance of mastering the various styles that have constituted the sequence of the history of fashion and of contemporary trends, for the purpose of analysing them critically and synthesising them into new forms.

Third Year

The third year is devoted to advanced design work in a context of professional simulation and of complex cultural benchmarks. When drawing up their final projects, students are allowed space for personal intuitions and critical thinking.
