March 29, 2022

The development of the projects to be presented at the Fuorisalone and the More than Monday series of meetings about the ten absolute beginners has begun in multidisciplinary teams. First event on 7 March dedicated to Rei Kawakubo.

During the Fuorisalone 2022, which is planned to take place from 6 to 12 June, IED will present at BASE Milano the Absolute Beginners collective project for all IED Group students from Italy, Spain, and Brazil. This is a multidisciplinary project designed to offer voice to the intuition and language of the new generations.
During the course of the project, the selected ten teams were asked to interpret and reflect on the stories of past and present female icons, who have left an indelible mark on society with their work, vision, as well as their gender struggle.
The stories of Lina Bo Bardi, Eva Mameli Calvino, Ada Bursi, Rei Kawakubo, Cinzia Ruggeri, Laura Solera Mantegazza with Maria Montessori and Giuseppina Pizzogni, Gala Eluard Dalì, Belen Moneo, Carla Accardiand Patricia Urquiola will be inspirational for the ten projects for the Milan Design Week: artists, designers, philosophers, educators, but first and foremost ten visionary women, with whom the IED students initiated an imaginary dialogue between debutants of today and yesterday. Young IED designers have been recognised as “absolute beginners”, as in the famous David Bowie song, but their award is an exclusive tribute to those who have already been “absolute beginners”.
To confirm the educational nature of the project and to facilitate a debate, open visions and offer an interpretation of the past and future of the design world, IED is launching the second edition of More Than Monday| Stories of inspiration cycle. This is a programme consisting of digital meetings and introductions to the Fuorisalone dedicated to students, staff, lecturers, IED Alumni and interested interlocutors during which the ten women protagonists of Absolute Beginners will be talked about.
After the interesting stories of Rei Kawakubo, Eva Mameli Calvino, Ada Bursi, Carla Accardi, Belén Moneo, the More Than Monday calendar continues in May with two more meetings:

On Monday 16th of May, we will have the pleasure of hearing the story of Lina Bo Bardi, Italian architect and designer, naturalised Brazilian, active in the Brazilian modernist scene since the 1950s; Aline Coelho Sanches, Professor of History of Architecture at the University of São Paulo in Brazil, will talk about her.
More Than Monday 2022 cycle will conclude on May 23 with the story of Cinzia Ruggeri, a stylist, costume designer, artist and designer with a unique and independent aesthetic since her debut, although close to radical design and the designers of Studio Alchimia; here she meets and collaborates with Alessandro Guerriero, designer and performer, who will tell us her story.

All the events will be streamed live on the dedicated platform MORE THAN MONDAY, accessible upon registration.
Simultaneous interpreting into Italian, English, Spanish and Brazil will be provided for all the dates.
We look forward to seeing you on Monday 16th of May to listen to Lina Bo Bardi’s story!
