Learn to explore, analyse and propose solutions to the current challenges of the circular economy from the perspective of design, strategy and management

The Course in Fashion Design and Circular Economy is a 360º immersion in circularity in fashion from a practical, professionalised and strategic perspective, emphasising design and proposal management.

Aimed at current market needs and aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, this introductory program addresses the principles of circular fashion, its real application or its differences with sustainability. Likewise, you will learn about international regulations, the challenges that production systems must confront to transition to circularity, the business management culture generated around this industry and the different circular business models.

Combining creativity with specific tools and methodologies, you will undertake various practical activities based on the corporate reality in the Basque Country, a territory that is at the forefront of sustainable fashion and the 'slow' movement in Europe.

Information to decide

A complete tour of the great challenge of circularity in fashion, putting your learning into practice through activities based on the reality of Basque industry.

Throughout several learning modules, the course combines theory and practice in the classroom with a program of visits to studios, companies, workshops, etc., to learn first-hand about the reality of the sector.

On the one hand, the theoretical part addresses aspects such as the global context of circularity, its differences with sustainability or international regulations and standards.

On the other, the more practical sections focus on the implementation of design strategies, as well as knowledge of specific recycling technologies or bio-based materials for textiles. Work is also done on different case studies related to the collaborative economy.

Professional students with work experience in the fields of fashion, design, textiles, new fibres, purchasing and manufacturing methods.

Fashion designers, materials engineers and supply chain managers willing to integrate circular economy principles into fashion.

Circular and sustainable fashion consultants.

Professionals who work for an organisation that intends to integrate the circular economy.

Directors of Quality and Environmental Management.

Public sector officials who need to know how to integrate circularity in textile clusters.

If your vision of fashion is closely linked to your commitment to the planet, this course takes you into the great challenge of circularity. To do this, you will combine your creativity with global knowledge of the sector, the handling of specific tools and the undertaking of practical design and management activities.

You will bolster your learning with case studies in an ideal setting, since the Basque Country is one of the European territories most involved in promoting measures for a cleaner textile industry.

In addition, you will study for a few months at the IED Bilbao headquarters in Bilbao, located on the so-called Isla del Conocimiento, a creative and multidisciplinary campus where you will come into contact with students and professionals from different branches and specialities of design.
