Explore how human relationships can shape the world around us, as you work across new technology, arts and project design culture within an international environment. This is actually what the Interior Design Undergraduate Programme at IED Roma is all about.

Create quality lifestyles and human relations between individuals and spaces through safe, comfortable and emotional environments. Learn how to design multi-use areas with consistent and recognisable image as you work within the open-air laboratory of the city of Rome, creating spaces that will lead our society towards sustainable transformations and a more inclusive future.

On your three-year Interior Design degree programme at IED Roma, you will design locations and places where people meet and interact with each other, among them offices, airports, hospitals, schools, bars and shops, museums or event venues, but also more intimate environments like villas and apartment buildings. Together, we will shape stories that take life in spaces where human experience and consciousness unfold, telling life through emotions, comfort and ease of use.

Over the three years, we will help you develop self-confidence as you become familiar with the tools needed to build new spaces from scratch or work on refurbishment projects. You will acquire the typical skills of an Interior Designer, a key professional in today’s society with the ability to interpret functions, aesthetic qualities and relationships in a constantly changing environment.

After the course, a First Level Academic Diploma is issued. It is recognised by MUR - Italian Ministry of University and Research - and has the same legal value of a Bachelor’s Degree.

Information to decide

Develop your strategic vision on interior design and get ready to take on the challenging tasks of a designer

The Interior Design degree programme at IED Roma provides cross-disciplinary knowledge and deep awareness of the professional world, based on a practical learning approach. Over the three years, you will be covering a wide range of subjects such as three-dimensional modelling and production of photorealistic images, until you achieve complete mastery of the whole creative process. You will develop your own design thinking approach, with a human-centred working method that you will be practising across research, analysis, synthesis and concept development.

The training provided has multiple goals to achieve. You will develop cross-sector and multidisciplinary skills, with the ability to analyse how market trends and styles evolve. Special emphasis will be placed on what is regarded as the most important part of Interior Design: a curious approach to new, never-before-seen forms of project design scenarios. You will also gain a deep understanding of the role of light, sounds, materials, finishes, colours and furnishings, and you will be able to work independently designing industrial products, space systems and services -public and private as well.

Technical lab sessions provided as part of your Interior Design degree programme will give you the opportunity to test yourself with hands-on real life work experience, as you experiment with the latest technologies applied to project design, improving your knowledge of software tools and digital prototyping techniques.

The Interior Design Undergraduate Programme at IED Roma is for students who make of curiosity the driving force of their lives. It is also a great option for those who have an interest in designing new spaces where people can share and enjoy life. Our degree programme has more to offer than just an answer to the question “what story is hidden behind everyday, city settings?”. Our aim is to encourage discussion among all those who enjoy looking around and never stop asking questions about the why of things.

In particular, this programme has been designed for all those who want to develop a better understanding about project design, concept creation and the role of light and furniture. The focus will also be on current environmental issues as you create safe, practical, beautiful and sustainable indoor spaces. You do not need any prerequisites to access this programme: you will learn here how to draw with a pencil or using the latest digital representation technologies, starting from scratch until you get to acquire whatever design skills you need.

This programme is just your best option if you want to learn more about the many different career options available in the field of Interior Design, i.e.: Exhibit and Cultural Designer, Retail Designer, Hospitality Designer, Personal Designer or Concept Designer.

The main difference between our Interior Design degree programme at IED Roma and other training courses is a special focus on project sustainability. Together, we will design new places for both humankind and the planet we live on. Sustainability will be indeed the key factor of a new project design approach, where spaces and services are fully integrated to provide immersive experiences and bring inspirational stories.

Yet another reason to choose this programme is the amazing urban setting where the school is based. The city of Rome with its rich history of human impacts, contrasts and influences will surround your life as a student, inspiring you with its diversity and incredible tradition as you learn to create new things and get ready for your future.

You will work on projects with a focus on enhancing artistic heritage and tourist reception, both of which are areas of expertise where Rome stands as a model and international symbol. Working closely with such renowned institutions as the MAXXI National Museum of XXI Century Arts and the MACRO, and cultural venues like Teatro Eliseo, or associations including Montessori Foundation and the NGO Intersos, you will be involved in real-life projects that will enhance your work portfolio and professional experience.

The course responds to market evolutions and trends and will allow you to acquire a solid design approach through specific lab-sessions (FabLab and Model Making Lab) involving the use of specialist equipment such as 3D scanners, 3D printers, laser cutting machines. The mastery of these tools will prove invaluable for the rendering and presentation phase of your work.
