IED Video Designers awarded at the 78th Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica in Venice Lido
THE BOOKCIAK, ACTION! 2021 GOES TO THE SHORT FILM "DAMNATIO MEMORIAE", DIRECTED BY EDOARDO MARTINELLI AND MADE IN THE SECOND YEAR OF VIDEO DESIGN
Zerocalcare, flanked by jurors Wilma Labate, Teresa Marchesi and Gianluca Arcopinto, awarded the prizes on Venice Lido to the young winners of the 10th edition of Bookciak Azione!, a national prize dedicated to the interweaving of cinema and literature through bookciak movies, short films of a maximum of three minutes inspired by novels, short stories, graphic novels and poetry.
This year the main theme was resistance. One of the six winners was the short film Damnatio Memoriae, directed by student Edoardo Martinelli and made with a team of colleagues in the second year of Video Design at IED Milano, under the didactic supervision of teacher Alessandra Pescetta. The film is freely inspired by the graphic novel Sangue del nostro sangue (i.e. Blood of our blood) by Claudio Bolognini and Fabrizio Fabbri (RedStar Press), which recalls the massacre in Reggio Emilia on 7 July 1960. That afternoon five demonstrators were killed, protesting against the government formed with the support of the MSI, a party of fascist inspiration. The event is reconstructed through the eyes of some children of that time who, having become adults, recall it alternating past and present.
The screenplay and photography are by Pietro Ronzoni (with the didactic supervision of Magdalena Barile and Enrico Brocchetta respectively), the editing by Matteo Raco (who also co-wrote the screenplay with Ronzoni); the filming is by Andrea Barbui and the sound by Lidia Bellotti; the direction of the actors was supervised by Cristina Proserpio.
