Translate your creativity into clothes and accessories that tell your own unique story with our Undergraduate Programme in Fashion Design course at IED Milano

Master your creativity and translate it into clothes and accessories that express a unique, innovative and personal story. Be inspired by new styles and ideas from areas that are not just about fashion, such as visual arts, design, digital media, marketing, new technologies, art direction and product management. You will have the opportunity to combine your expertise with traditional fashion codes, to create collections that are both contemporary and sustainable.
With the three-year Undergraduate Fashion Design Programme at IED Milano you will enhance your technical skills, as you will be able to select materials and manage the production of a garment or clothing accessory. You will enjoy sharing views and ideas as you go along the way, working closely with all the professionals involved in the fashion production process.
The third year will be the time for you to decide between two different specialization tracks: Fashion Design and Shoes and Accessories Design.

After the course, a First Level Academic Diploma is issued. It is recognised by MUR - Italian Ministry of University and Research - and has the same legal value of a Bachelor’s Degree.

Information to decide

The extensive training programme to learn methods and techniques to design unique collections

The Fashion Design degree programme at IED Milano aims to provide you with everything you need to design garments, accessories or fabrics with original style, fine-tuned to perfectly meet market needs and demands.

You will be learning to master different pattern-making and tailoring techniques, textile and leather technologies and their processing, as well as fashion design and illustration techniques, as well as the manufacturing process of garments and accessories. We will be analysing the language of fashion from a number of perspectives: as a historical, artistic and social phenomenon, and also as a flow of different trends and signs. But most importantly, we will look at it as a creative and visual form of communication, as an economic system where supply chains, marketing and communication processes are the driving forces at play.

Year by year, you will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of special workshops such as hand textile design, hand knitting, trend analysis, writing workshop, vintage pattern-making, moulage, sketchbook making, millinery and metalwork.

The second year will be the time for you to decide between two different specialization tracks: Fashion Design, to specialize in the design of menswear, womenswear, knitwear and kids collections, and Shoes and Accessories Design for the creation of women’s and men’s leather goods and footwear collections.

If you are creative and passionate about the world of fashion, the Fashion Design course at IED Milano is definitely your best option!  Fashion design students are open to the contemporary world. They enjoy drawing and love to work with different inspiration sources to create clothes and accessories.

The Fashion Design degree programme at IED Milano is based on a multidisciplinary, innovative learning approach to help you acquire the knowledge you need to become a fashion designer of the future.  Upon completion of your training programme, you will be able to assess the overall consistency of each project, from idea to concept, and all the way through to production.

Our three-year Fashion Design programme is deeply rooted into the Italian design culture that IED has contributed to develop in its more than fifty years of history. The stunning city of Milan is indeed a hotbed of inspiration with extraordinary cultural and social heritage that provides the groundwork for collections design and production.
A perfect blend of theory subjects combined with research and development of your own design approach is the main focus of our programme. Starting from year one, you will work on projects with increasing degrees of complexity, as you will challenge yourself in such activities as designing different collections: womenswear, menswear, kidswear, accessories and knitwear, all the way up to developing your dissertation project. This will be the time when you will create specific prototypes, combining tailoring and innovation knowledge with the skills and expertise developed throughout the three years.

Term after term, you will engage with a variety of languages: from technical and artistic drawing and digital graphics, to different approaches to pattern-making and tailoring, knitwear and textile research. You will also have the opportunity to engage in fruitful dialogue with both lecturers and other students, including those from other different courses. This level of interaction will allow you to focus on your skills and talents as you build through each project your style and personal identity.

IED Milano provides a complete programme, including opportunities of cooperation with the business world and fashion professionals. Upon completion of the three years, this level of synergy will allow students of the Fashion Design degree programme to be able to work as Fashion Designer, Shoes and Accessories Designer, Textile Designer, Product Manager, Knitwear Designer, Trend Researcher.
