Design pervades every industry, product or service, in terms of content, language, technical and functional aspects. Starting from these needs, the course aims at training professionals able to design innovative shapes and functions, to interpret and anticipate emerging aesthetic lines. At the end of the three years the student will have acquired the culture of the project, the expressive abilities and the technological knowledge that has always characterized the "learning-by-doing" philosophy of IED. This objective is reached through the numerous collaboration between the Accademia di Belle Arti Aldo Galli and the local companies. With a didactics shaped on the concept of "business plan", the obtained knowledge will be central to face the new challenges of a constantly evolving professional sector.

Career opportunities: Product designer, concept designer, art director, systems designers, assistants in the search for materials, components, technical devices.

The course has a strong connection with the Como and Brianza area which is important not only for textiles but also for the design sector. This is highlighted by the collaborations and partnerships that the Accademia di Belle Arti Aldo Galli IED Como has established with companies in the area of canturino, with the wood furniture sector and with the monza-brianza area for the design related to the product. The didactics, in fact, provides the opportunity to collaborate actively through real projects, with professionals and companies in the sector to create a concrete connection with the world of design professions.

The training path allows to develop technical and design knowledge, combined with the ones of the industrial system, technological tools, production processes and materials (physical and morphological characteristics, expressive skills) up to the typical photography of visual merchandising and design management that put in contact students, companies and market.

The course of study starts with a basic training in design methodology, cultural references and tools. Among the basic subjects the student deals with different topics: design methodology, typology of materials, technical and design drawing, design techniques and technologies, history of design, model making.

The Designer can work either as a freelancer, on his or her own or as an associate, in small and medium enterprises, design companies, professional studios, or in other institutions, public or private. The outgoing figure is part of the professional system with executive skills, expressing the ability to work in a team and to interpret and implement the indications of a project and

translate them correctly into the economic, ergonomic, productive, material, representation and modeling requirements required for production.

The student must be able to interpret consumer trends and styles, understand market needs, social and consumption dynamics, formal languages, philosophy and culture of the company that become an indispensable matrix in expressing the design response.

The course is recognised by the MIUR as a First Level Academic Diploma.
