We believe that designing means generating impact.

IED’s School of Design trains professionals who can interpret the complexity of the present and actively contribute to building a future that is more sustainable, inclusive, and aware.

Today, design goes beyond the traditional concept of Human-Centred Design, where humans were placed at the core of everything. We now find ourselves in a new context, where humans are just one of many components within a complex ecosystem that includes nature, technology, and their mutual interactions. This shift in perspective opens up new fields of enquiry and design challenges: it’s no longer just about creating objects, but about shaping experiences, services, systems, and relationships.
This approach forms the foundation of IED’s design courses, created for those who wish to study design in an innovative and responsible way.

In a world in transition – from objects to services, from physical to digital spaces – design becomes a tool for connecting knowledge, creating value, and restoring meaning to our relationship with what surrounds us. At IED, design is also critical thinking: we question the role of technologies and their social, environmental, and cultural implications. To be a designer today means designing with awareness, imagining responsible and lasting solutions.

With IED’s professional design courses, you can turn your talent into real impact. Start designing tomorrow, today.

With IED’s School of Design, you’ll learn the techniques and languages that open the door to multiple careers in the creative field.

Here are some of the main professions you might pursue:

  • Interior Designer: A professional who designs and organises spaces, optimising both functionality and aesthetics, while considering client needs and current regulations.

  • Transportation Designer: A specialist in the design of vehicles and transport systems, working on aesthetics, functionality, and ergonomics, while integrating technological innovations.

  • Jewellery Designer: An artist who creates jewellery by developing concepts, selecting materials and forms to produce unique and appealing pieces.

  • Service Designer: A professional who improves services by analysing user interaction with the service itself, aiming to optimise the overall experience and customer satisfaction.

  • Packaging Designer: A designer who specialises in creating packaging, combining aesthetics and functionality to protect the product and attract consumers.

  • Concept Designer: A visual idea creator for fields such as film, video games, and advertising, developing scenarios, characters, and settings that inspire the final project.

  • Product Designer: A professional responsible for the design and development of products, integrating functionality, aesthetics, and user experience to meet both user and market needs.

Alumni Experiences

Who better to tell you what it means to study at the IED School of Design than those who have already been through it?

Here are some testimonials from alumni who have turned their passion into a career:

Ilaria SacchiAlumna, DAPL Interior Design, IED Milano
"I believe my years at IED were fundamental to what I do now. One thing that really helped was the fact that we always worked with major design brands or labels as part of our projects."

Riccardo Casillas Alumnus, Master in Transportation Design, IED Torino
"One of the most wonderful things that ever happened to me was arriving in Turin nearly 20 years ago, and forming lasting friendships there. The city itself is hugely influential for those interested in cars, because car culture is part of everyday life in Turin."

Samuele ArmelinAlumnus, DAPL Jewellery and Accessories Design, IED Milano
"I believe the Jewellery and Accessories Design course at IED Turin offers a unique opportunity: to work across four product categories – jewellery, shoes, eyewear, and leather accessories – while engaging with different points along the production chain."

Serena Bonomi Alumna, Master in Design: Innovation, Strategy and Product, IED Milano
"In my job, I don’t just create physical objects or digital products – I apply design methodologies every day. I believe my experience at IED shaped my design mindset a thousand percent."

Jessica Cooper Alumna, Master in Jewellery Design, IED Roma
"My brand Ohliguer was born at IED. I’d say the biggest challenge was my own perfectionism – it often held me back from sharing my creations because I feared they weren’t good enough. The Coordinator of my course was incredibly supportive, encouraging me to keep creating with the belief that things would develop naturally over time."
